Detailed the steps to tie it:

We use a hook for streamers # 4 ó # 2. We will use black thread or coffee 6/0.

We tie in the rear part of the hook a long and fine rooster feather, color grizzly, and we leave it free.
We trim a long strip of Loco Foam (color “damsel blue “or “tiger beetle green”) not more than 3 mm. wide, and we tie it in the rear part of the hook. This material is of greater importance for the success of this fly.

We take the Crazy Foam and we roll up it foward on the leg of the hook, wrapping 2/3 of the same one.

Then we take the grizzly color rooster feather that was free and we roll up it foward before putting it among middle of the crack, cut or separation that leaves the foam already rolled up and tied on the hook.

Subsequently, we trim a long piece of foam black, of some 7 mm. of wide and we round it in one of the extremes; this piece we tie it above materials before described, to some 2/3 of the leg of the hook and with the round tip backwards, the one that should not surpass the curve of the hook. This piece of foam should surpass at least some 3 cms. on the eye of the hook, for later double it backwards concocting the head of the fly.

Then we take a black color deer hairs piece, the ones that after matching, we tie besides the piece of foam black. The hairs of deer should not surpass the long one of the hook.
We take some pearly flash crystal fibers and we tie them in both sides of the fly to level of the piece of foam black.

To concoct the legs, we take 2 elastics round color coffee, black ó of the type speckled centipede legs, and we tie them in “V” to both sides of the fly in order to imitate the rear legs.

We cut a small piece of foam pink or red color of not more than 5 mm. of wide (therefore they are easier to distinguish in white water); we round it in one of the tips and we tie it to the height of the 2/3 of the hook. This foam will be the indicator to sting of the fly.

Then to the same height (2/3 of the hook) we tie 2 color rooster feathers grizzly and we roll up them to the height of the eye of the hook, we tie them firmly and we cut the surplus.

Then, in the space that there is between the 2 color rooster feathers grizzly and the head of the fly, we tie 2 round elastics of color coffee to both sides, the ones that should remain tied in the shape of “V”. We knot firmly and we assure with a little cement.

Dear Paul,

Beth and I can’t stop thinking about the wonderful time we had at the Paloma River Lodge. It was everything we had hoped for from a Chilean fly fishing experience. For a wilderness lodge it couldn’t be beat. The accommodations were more than comfortable, the food was outstanding (and the envy of some gourmet restaurants, I’m sure), the guides and staff very professional and the fly fishing was the best we have ever encountered in Chile, New Zealand or the States. (On the beautiful Mogote River, Beth stopped counting after catching 50 good sized Rainbows and Browns by mid-afternoon.)

The Paloma River Valley is breathtaking, and the options, from walk/wade, float or lake fishing for the big Browns and Bows, provides a perfect variety for dry fly fishing in heaven.

Thanks so much for the hospitality you and your staff provided. We are already marking our calendars for our return trip with friends next year.

See you then.
